What are my care options?

There are several elder care options available, depending on the level of care needed and the preferences of the individual. Some common elder care options include:

Homecare

This option allows seniors to receive care in the comfort of their own homes. Home care services can include assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, and meal preparation, as well as companionship and medication reminders. These services can be provided through government funded agencies or privately.

Long-Term Care

Long-term care homes play a crucial role in providing continuous care for individuals whose needs exceed what can be managed in their own homes or the community. These facilities cater to a diverse range of individuals, including elderly individuals with age-related conditions, people with disabilities requiring specialized care, and those facing significant health challenges

Assisted Living

Assisted living facilities provide a supportive living environment for seniors who need some assistance with daily activities but do not require round-the-clock medical care. Residents typically have their own apartments and access to communal areas and services.

Memory Care

Memory care facilities are specifically designed to meet the needs of seniors with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia. These facilities provide specialized care and programs to support cognitive function and manage behavioural symptoms.

Adult Day Care

Adult day care centers offer daytime care and supervision for seniors who are not able to stay home alone during the day. These centres provide social activities, meals, and some health and personal care services.

Respite Care

Respite care provides short-term relief for caregivers by allowing seniors to stay in a facility temporarily while their caregivers take a break. This can be particularly helpful for caregivers who need to attend to other responsibilities or simply need some time for themselves.

Hospice Care

Hospice care is focused on providing comfort and support to terminally ill patients and their families. This type of care is typically provided in the patient's home or in a hospice facility and is aimed at ensuring a peaceful and dignified end-of-life experience.

Independent Living Communities

Independent living communities are housing options designed for active, independent seniors. These communities offer amenities such as recreational activities, social events, and sometimes meal services, but do not provide medical or personal care assistance.  Often referred to as retirement homes.

It's important to carefully consider the needs and preferences of the senior when choosing an elder care option, and to explore all available resources and support services to ensure the best possible care.

Elder planning consultants can provides services such as:
